The town nestles between the impressive Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean in South Africa, SA, with the world-renowned forests encircling it like a protective mantle. At the heart of Knysna is the 21 ha lagoon protected from the sea by the monolithic sandstone "Heads" - silent rocky sentinels 230 metres apart - down the centuries of the rich history of this unique part of "paradise on earth".

The Knysna Lagoon is the start of the lakes region in the Western Cape. If planning to travel to the town, on arrival in Knysna secure your very own house-boat and head on out into the expansive Knysna lagoon to experience its teeming sea life, water sports or simply just to cruise to the small lagoon islands for the day and enjoy the nights in the languid, laid back way of the locals. Knysna is known for its oysters.

Every year during July visitors may join the local events like, the Knysna Oyster Festival, as-well as the Pick and Pay Knysna marathon ( also known as the Forest marathon) that's held annually during the same time in the month of July, 10th. The lagoon is an integral part of the town of Knysna, a major tourist town on the Cape's most popular adventure route.

Knysna was voted in the past as South Africa´s favourite town.
