To make the Luxury Cape Winelands Holiday extra special we high recommend a visit to Franschhoek with a ride on the Wine Tram or a visit to the Spice Route, located close to Paarl.
The Clouds Estate was developed by a Dutch couple along the Helshoogte mountain pass in 2012 and is today an extraordinary hotel with 7 rooms and 6 villas on the estate making the most of its amazing views of the wine valley. Clouds serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily in the relaxed atmosphere of our restaurant and al-fresco when the weather permits it. Our hotel guests enjoy priority for restaurant bookings.
This retreat is ideal for couples and honeymooners with its romantic setting on the mountain side. Spoil your loved one to a chocolate tasting at Huguenot fine chocolates, visit the food market and entertainment venue at Root 44, or some of the museums including Rupert Museum, Huguenot Museum or the Car Museum at L’Ormarins.

Day 1 Cape Town to Helshoogte Your epic wine journey starts today as your private chauffeur driver collects you from your hotel in Cape Town City or Cape Town Airport and takes you to the Helshoogte Mountain Pass. along the way you will pass through the northern suburbs as well as Stellenbosch, one of the oldest European settlements in the Western Cape, known for its oak tree lined streets, which were planted by its founder, Simon van der Stel.
Upon arrival at the Clouds Estate you will be greeted by the friendly staff with a welcoming glass of Clouds wine before checking into your hotel room overlooking the Simonsberg or Drakenstein mountain ranges.
For an iconic view of the Simonsberg range from your room that the hotel is known for we recommend upgrading to a Luxury, Deluxe or Superior room (with Jacuzzi).
The rest of the day is at your own leisure. There are plenty activities available for you to enjoy in the area (excluded): - Chocolate tastings at Huguenot fine chocolates - Visit the food market and entertainment venue at Root 44 in Stellenbosch - Visit some of the museums including Rupert Museum, Huguenot Museum or the Car Museum
Day 2 Curated Wine Experience in Franschhoek (optional) Your private chauffeur driver will collect you from your hotel and take you to Franschhoek around 08h00 - 09h00. The day starts with a journey by double-decker railway tram to a local wine estate where a knowledgeable wine guide weaves the facts, figures and scientific aspects of wine-making into interesting stories about Franschhoek’ s history of wine and culture.
During this engaging and interactive experience, guests will be guided through, and have an opportunity to sample, the subtle tastes of terroir, as well as learn about the local grape varieties, cultivars and the aspects of viticulture which are unique to Southern Africa.
After the morning lecture, guests will join the wine guide on a tour of the estate wine cellar followed by a specially curated three-course gourmet lunch at the estate restaurant.
In the afternoon, guests will visit two more local wine estates in Franschhoek, enjoying a premium wine pairing at each estate.
At the end of the experience, guests will leave feeling more knowledgeable and connected to the local wine culture and ready to discover the Franschhoek Valley further. The tour ends around 16h00 at which time your private chauffeur will return you to the hotel. You also have the option to explore the town of Franschhoek on your own before returning to the hotel.
Day 3 Return to Cape Town Today is your last day in the cape winelands. You have some time to explore the region before returning to Cape Town (excluded): - Visit the Spice Route for a wide range of tastings (Gin, Beer, Chocolate, Biltong, Ice Cream) and high-end restaurants overlooking the northern region of Cape Town - Visit the town of Paarl known for its iconic Taal Monument perched on top of the Paarl Mountains as well as some of the many wine farms surrounding this peaceful town - Drive past the Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned during the last moments of his sentence before being elected president of South Africa. - Visit some of the many wildlife parks in the area that include populations of Lion, Crocodile, Cheetah and many more.
Your private chauffeur driver will collect you and return you to Cape Town City or the airport where your journey comes to an end.
