ITINERARYDAY 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara (L / D) Departing Nairobi we climb the escarpment to reach a viewpoint overlooking the spectacular Great Rift Valley for our first stop. Descending into the Rift Valley, we reach the Masai land where the local herdsman are often seen tending their cattle. We pass the town of Narok, and continue on our drive to the first camp site, possibly getting a glimpse of some wildlife along the way. We arrive at our campsite late afternoon overlooking the Meguarra hills and a winding stream that forms a natural border to the Masai Mara National Reserve.

DAY 2: Masai Mara (B / L / D) After an early start we begin our game drive into the Masai Mara, known as one of East Africa‟s best Reserves and home to a great variety of wildlife species. The famous Annual Migration of over 1 million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson's gazelle crossing over from the Serengeti National in Tanzania is most popular between July and October. Following these herds you will find Africa's predators, often spotted at a kill. We search for the "Big 5" (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion & leopard), along with many other species of animals, reptiles and birds. We have the oppertunity to visit a nearby Masai Manyatta (a traditional hamlet where the Masai still live in their traditional way) after the game drive.

DAY 3: Eldoret (B / L / D) We depart the Masai Mara Reserve early morning and head towards the Masai Land passing the scenic tea plantations of Kericho before agian descending into the Rift Valley Plateau, on our way to Eldoret.

DAY 4: Kampala (Uganda) (B / L / D) Cross the border, we enter Uganda. Here we overnight it the capital city, Kampala. Uganda's landscapes vary from the fertile green areas on the northern shores of Lake Victoria to the snow capped Ruwenzori Mountains and semi-desert region in the north. Political instability that has haunted Uganda in the past has left the country free of the over commercialism so common in the rest of Africa.

DAYS 5 - 8: Lake Bunyoni (B / L / D) We travel west deeper into Uganda to our base at the tranquil Lake Bunyoni, the deepest Crater Lake in Africa and home to a varied number of birds. This will be our base from which the optional Gorilla trek takes place.

Dependanding on where trekking permits are available, we trek in either the Magahinga or Bwindi National Parks in Uganda, the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, or the Ruhengeri National Park in Rwanda. Prices of trekking permits can change without prior notice – currently they are priced at about US$500. There is also a local transport & handling fee of US$65-70pp. The guide will assist with visa applications if needed. We advise that you budget a little extra for tips for the local rangers and guides. Payment for the permit must be made in US$ cash at the pre departure meeting.

Trekking Procedures: The mountain gorillas one of our closest living relatives. A visit to these gentle giants is a unique and wonderful experience. They are free roaming animals, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Any traveller with even the slightest cold or transferable illness will not be permitted to trek. Trekking can be from 45 minutes to 8 hours (excluding transfer time), a reasonable level of fitness is required. The maximum time permitted to spend with the gorrilas is 1 hour where you will have plenty of time to watch their activity and to take photographs.
