Best time to visit Maldives

Weather & Climate

Maldives enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year and many hours of sunshine. The average temperature is 31 degrees and minimum 26 degrees with small variations in the temperatures throughout the year. April is the hottest month and December the coolest.

Dry Season vs Wet Season

The best time to go to Maldives is considered to be the the Dry season, when you can expect the least amount of rain showers spoiling your beach time. The Dry Season lasts from mid-December to March and the Wet Season from May to November (including Monsoon season).

The Dry Season brings little rain, the humidity drops, seas are gentler and the visibility is at it’s best, perfect for diving and snorkeling.

The Wet Seasons is likely to bring a few storms and rain is more frequent, although it still is warm. This period is usually cloudier with higher humidity and rougher seas, which is ideal for surfing in Maldives.

Cheapest time to travel to Maldives

Maldives is an expensive destination when compared to most other islands in the Indian Ocean, so you should also consider avoiding the busy periods in Maldives. December to April (dry season) is the busiest time in Maldives with the peak time in February and April. You can expect higher rates for a Maldives Honeymoon or vacation during this time. December is the most expensive time to travel to Maldives, especially over Christmas & New Years, when rates are nearly double.

The cheapest time would be in the Wet Season, which is between March and October.
