Best time to visit South Africa

South Africa is large and a very diverse country. The climate varies a lot between the regions, so to know when the best time is to travel to South Africa, you would need to consider each destination you are visiting.

Cape Town and the Western Cape
June to August is Winter, when the most rain is experienced. The summer is bone dry from most of the time (November to March).

Kruger and Mpumalanga
Kruger is dry for most of the summer from December to March, with thundershowers. The best time to go on safari in Kruger National Park would be May to October, when the vegetation is thinner and rain showers are less frequent.

Garden Route and Eastern Cape
Rains is experienced at any time during the year.

Durban and Kwazulu-Natal
Sunshine is enjoyed throughout the year with a mild winter. Any time is good to visit.

Whales – South-Western Cape
If you would like to see the whales in Hermanus or surrounding areas, June to November is the Whale Season in South African, with the peak time in September.

Namaqualand Flowers
The best time to visit the wild flowers in Namaqualand is after the winter rains from July to September.
