This is followed by soup from the campfire.
The main course buffet offers pork fillet, mouth-watering grilled ostrich, buffalo curry, lamb on the spit, game stews and kudu steak. There are also vegetarian options available, with an extensive salad bar, as well as local dishes such as peanut butter spinach and sadza (a thick porridge made from ground maize that forms Zimbabwe’s staple diet).

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge waterhole
Our Victoria Falls hotel overlooks a waterhole offering guests the opportunity to view a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffalo, kudu, waterbuck, impala as well as a large number of bird species. Game may be seen at the waterhole from the comfort of the lodge’s viewing deck, pool deck, fitness room or over drinks or a meal at the Buffalo Bar and MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant. The majority of rooms at the lodge have a direct view of the waterhole from where guests may soak up the iconic African sight of wildlife wending its way to and from quenching its thirst from the privacy of their balcony.
The Vulture Culture Experience The Vulture Culture Experience is a supplementary feeding programme that aids the survival of these remarkable but endangered birds and allows visitors to enjoy the spectacular sight of hundreds of these raptors swooping down to be fed on leftover meat scraps from onsite restaurants.
The activity, which occurs at 1 pm daily, begins with a briefing on a deck beneath Victoria Falls Safari Lodge about the ecological importance of vultures and the plight they are facing before visitors take a short walk down a bush path to a hide to view the vultures feeding. Here there is the opportunity to spot white-headed, hooded, lappet-faced and white-backed vultures, as well as marabou storks.
The project also allows vulture numbers to be monitored, as populations are dwindling due to a variety of human-created issues, including electrocution by power lines, loss of available and safe food supply, direct and indirect poisoning and the use of their parts for traditional medicines.
While visitors are encouraged to make a donation towards vulture conservation, $1 from every meal at MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant and the Buffalo Bar goes to the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust.
Siduli Hide
If you’ve ever wanted to get so close to an elephant you can count its eyelashes or feel its breath as a curious trunk wanders through Siduli Hide’s viewing gap, then this is an activity you should experience.
A sit in the Siduli Hide, which, located at the edge of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge waterhole, resembles a termite mound, and offers the incredible opportunity to view wildlife at very close quarters for a sustained period of time.
Guests are concealed inside Siduli Hide, from where they may closely observe large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as kudu, warthogs, crocodiles, marabou storks, vultures and much more.
Ideal for keen photographers and wildlife enthusiasts who seek a unique and exclusive way to enjoy wildlife while visiting Victoria Falls, the two-hour hide, which is available to groups of up to six and is best done in the early morning or late afternoon, is run by professional guide Charles Brightman.
Bird Hide
A bird hide sit, offering the opportunity to spot a variety of different species, including guinea fowl, kingfishers, shrikes and doves, at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, surrounded by the tranquillity of nature, is a relaxing way to while away an hour. The bird hide, which is suitable for all age groups, is surrounded by nature trails where bushbuck and warthog are commonly sighted. Both the bird hide and the nature trails can be explored at guests’ own leisure.
The rooms have sliding glass doors opening from a light spacious interior onto the balcony, offering superb views of spectacular sunsets and bushveld.
