Start your Bhutan Private Tour in Thimphu, visiting the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in 1974 to honour the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and visit the gigantic Buddha Dordenma Statue, which houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues.
Your journey in the Kingdom of Bhutan will also include some exceptional hiking trails to visit Khamsum Yuelley Monastery and the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Hiking trails on this tour require a moderate level of fitness but are non-strenuous.
We also stop at the Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungthang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang (meaning "the palace of great happiness or bliss"). It is the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures.

Summary



Day 1 - Paro to Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be met by your local guide and transported to Thimphu (1 hour's drive). After settling into your hotel, your guide will take you to visit the National Memorial Chorten. Also known as the Thimphu Chorten, it was built in 1974 to honour the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and has become a prominent landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. The stupa has also become known as "the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan".
If time allows you can optionally visit Thimphu City Center.

Day 2 - Thimphu & Punakha
We start the day with a visit to the Buddha Dordenma Statue. The Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of the fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The completed work is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at 169 feet (52 m) and contains 100,000 8-inch-tall and 25,000 12-inch-tall gilded bronze Buddhas.
We enjoy lunch at Druk Wangyel Cafeteria and a walk through a paddy field to Chimi Lhakhang - fertility temple (30 mins). Chimi Lhakhang was built in 1499 by the 14th Drukpa hierarch, Ngawang Choegyel, after the site was blessed by the "Divine Madman" the maverick saint Drukpa Kunley (1455–1529) who built a chorten on the site.
Return to your hotel.

Day 3 - Punakha & Paro
After breakfast, we embark on a hike to visit the Khamsum Yuelley Monastery (1 hour). Visit Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungthang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang (meaning "the palace of great happiness or bliss"), it is the administrative centre of Punakha District. Constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in 1637–38, it is the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures. We have lunch at Nobgang Tserim Heritage Village, before proceeding to Paro (3 hour's drive)

Day 4 - Paro
Today we take the trail up to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (3 hours). This site is one of thirteen Tiger's Nest caves in historical Tibet in which Padmasambhava is practised and taught Vajrayana.
Today, it is the best known of the thirteen Taktsang or "tiger lair" caves in which Guru Padmasambhava and his students meditated. We enter the sacred caves and enjoy lunch at a scenic viewpoint before returning to Paro Town, where you can optionally enjoy some time to explore.

Day 5 - Depart Paro
Your driver and guide will collect you from your hotel and return you to Paro airport to catch your onward flight back home.
