3 Day Mont Eco Karoo Self-Drive

3 Day Karoo Self Drive

Explore the untamed beauty of Mont Eco Game Reserve, a vast 6,500-hectare (16,000-acre) sanctuary located in the heart of the Klein Karoo in the Western Cape. Delve into a journey through time as you discover the rich history etched into its landscapes, from ancient Bushman paintings to fossilized remnants dating back thousands of years.

Immerse yourself in the diverse nature of Mont Eco Game Reserve, which proudly stands within the revered Cape Floral Kingdom, home to three remarkable biomes: the Nama Karoo, Succulent Karoo, and Fynbos. Witness the remarkable transformation orchestrated by dedicated custodians, who have lovingly restored the land to its pristine state, now flourishing with an impressive array of succulent plant species.

Furthermore, the unique landscape of the Karoo is home to iconic species such as the Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Oryx, and Klipspringer. Herds of Eland, Springbok, Wildebeest, and Giraffe roam the parched plains of the "Klein Karoo" as they did centuries ago. After thorough research into the animal species that previously inhabited this region, the African Big Five – Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo – have been successfully reintroduced to Mont Eco Game Reserve.

Game drives are conducted twice a day, depending on the season. The first drive takes place early in the morning as the sun slowly starts to light up the trees and the mountains. The second drive occurs just before the sun dips below the horizon at sunset. This amazing experience is included in all our accommodation packages and is not to be missed.
Each game drive offers a new experience as you travel through the bush, providing the opportunity to see the African Big 5 animals.

Mont Eco Game Reserve beckons you to rediscover the magic of the natural world and forge unforgettable memories amidst its boundless splendour.

Animals & Landscapes
Iconic Karoo species such as Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Oryx and Klipspringer occur naturally in this unique landscape, and herds of Eland, Springbok, Wildebeest, and Giraffe roam the parched plains of the Klein Karoo as they did centuries ago. After thorough research into the animal species that previously inhabited this region, the African Big Five – Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo have successfully been reintroduced to Mont Eco Game Reserve.
The Klein Karoo has one of the world’s richest and most diverse succulent habitats, with over five thousand species recorded, representing almost 50% of succulent species globally. The Klein Karoo is a transition zone between the Fynbos Biome and the Succulent Karoo Biome prevalent in the area.
The diversity of the landscapes, with rugged mountains always in view, rolling hills and valleys, make the Klein Karoo an endless source of delight and wonderment. Despite being the most developed part of the Karoo, there remains a sense of space and solitude across most of the region.
