The Kruger Thornhill Safari Lodge is located within the Guernsey private concession in the Greater Kruger. A comfortable & affordable safari lodge true to the African bush atmosphere.

This Kruger Safari Tour includes road transport from Johannesburg central hotels and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) by shuttle service departing between 05:30 – 06:30. 

The Kruger Thornhill Safari Lodge is located close to Hoedspruit and is a self-indulged, cosy and comfortable property offering an affordable hideaway in the untamed bushveld. The Thornhill Safari Lodge is part of the natural surroundings and habitat with the surrounding concession being incorporated with the Kruger National Park.

The lodge consists of 13 authentic thatch-roof chalets each with en-suite facilities, decorated with vibrant fabrics and local hardwood furniture, they create a stylish bush atmosphere. Rooms at the Kruger Thornhill Safari Lodge are equipped with ceiling fans, mosquito nets to mention and wooden decks overlooking the pool area and surrounding bushveld. Honeymoon Suites are available with corner bathtubs and air conditioning.

The tour includes safari activities such as an afternoon game drive in the private concession, a full-day safari in the Kruger National Park and a morning nature walk. A 4- and 5-day itinerary is also available with the extra days excluding the activities (which can be included from a choice of activities - see the rates section).

Day 1: Greater Kruger Park Big 5 game drive
Thornhill Safari Lodge welcomes you into the heart of the African bushveld on your arrival, setting the tone for a memorable safari adventure. Take the time to unwind and take in the sights and sounds of the wilderness, before heading out on a late afternoon and early evening game drive. We track elusive creatures of the night while being guided by state-of-the-art spotlights.

You are in the midst of one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world, with animal and bird species that have captured the fascination of travellers for hundreds of years. This is the time to take advantage of all the great photographic opportunities and capture the beauty of Africa on film forever. On return from your drive, we enjoy a traditional African Boma dinner around the campfire, while being serenaded by the sounds of the African night.

Day 2: Full-day Kruger Park safari
Look forward to an early rise as our guides meet you, ready for a day of exploration in the celebrated Kruger National Park. The Park offers an unrivalled wildlife experience that ranks with the best not only in Africa but around the world. Its rich history dates to 1898, and its goal has always been to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld. Today, this national treasure offers 2 million hectares of unspoiled African wild.

Truly the flagship of the South African National Parks, Kruger remains home to an impressive number of species ranging from 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 517 birds and 146 mammals. Look forward to a safari experience that unfolds from the moment you enter the Kruger Park and explore the best game drive routes the Park has to offer.

Your game drive takes you to a remote site where we stop for a picnic brunch. After brunch, the rest of the day is spent discovering the Kruger Park’s various viewpoints and waterholes. We return to the comforts of Thornhill Safari Lodge, where we enjoy yet another taste of traditional African cuisine before retiring to the peaceful sounds of the African bush.

Your safari kicks off the moment we enter the Kruger, as you explore the best game drives that the Park has to offer. Throughout the day, we explore various viewpoints and waterholes until we reach a remote site for a tasty picnic brunch. Once an exciting day draws to a close, we return to the modern comforts of Thornhill Safari Lodge, we enjoy yet another taste of exquisitely prepared and traditional African cuisine. You then retire for the night, surrounded by the beautiful serenade of the African bush.

Day 3: Leisure Day This is your leisure day, where you can soak in the African sun, relax at the lodge and sip on cocktails around our inviting swimming pool. Take a Big Five game drive, visit a local animal rehabilitation centre or just spend the day taking in the sights and sounds around you at the lodge. Day 1: Greater Kruger Park Big 5 game drive

Upon your arrival at Thornhill Safari Lodge, we welcome you to our world-class lodge and help you to settle into camp. Following this, you can look forward to a scrumptious lunch smack in the middle of the African bushveld.

Now is the time to relax and take in the sounds and sights of the African wilderness, before heading out on a late afternoon and early evening game drive. We track elusive creatures of the night while being guided by state-of-the-art spotlights.

Always under the guidance of our seasoned rangers, you will learn about nature’s finer details while tracking the game and learning about the diverse species making up this fascinating ecosystem. Upon returning from our drive, we enjoy a traditional African Boma dinner around the campfire, while letting the sounds of the African night wash over you. (Weather permitting)

Enjoy the sights and sounds that this world-famous park has to offer. The Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 517 birds and 147 mammals.

However, your safari experience isn’t done yet! This is the part where we explore some of the best game drive routes that the Kruger has to offer. After a morning of fun exploration, we stop off at a remote site where you enjoy a fun picnic brunch. After brunch, the rest of the day is spent exploring the many different Kruger viewpoints and waterholes along the way. Following a memorable day of exploration and experiences, we return to the modern comforts of Thornhill Safari Lodge, we enjoy yet another taste of traditional African cuisine before retiring to the peaceful sounds of the African bush for the night.

Day 4: Panorama Route 
We depart Thornhill after breakfast and enjoy spending the rest of the day exploring the sights along the Drakensberg Escarpment’s Panoramic Route, including the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondawels, Gods Window and a few quaint little villages along the way. Following this, we make the trek back to Thornhill in the late afternoon in time to freshen up before again enjoying some delicious bushveld cooking.
